hot weather tire blowoutWe’re officially going through a heat wave! With temperatures in the 90’s, especially for several days in a row, there are additional dangers of driving. Keep these hot weather driving safety tips in mind and stay safe!

Danger of Overheating

The hot weather puts additional pressure on your vehicle’s operation. Check your vehicle’s fluid levels ahead of time to minimize issues. If you are stuck in traffic, engage the parking brake and lightly press on your gas pedal occasionally. This will circulate coolant and prevent overheating. Keep an eye on your temperature gauges. If the engine temperature reaches the red zone, immediately pull your car over to the side of the road and turn off the engine. Give the car time to cool down and call for assistance if needed.

Impact of Heat on Tires

The asphalt on the road can reach really high temperatures on hot days. This, in turn, affects your vehicle’s tires. Blowouts are more common on such days. Cars with worn or under-inflated tires are more prone to blowouts. Under-inflated tires have more surface area touching the hot road. Heat builds up and expands inside the tire, causing failures. Make sure that your tires are properly inflated to reduce the chances of a blowout.

Driver Psychology on Hot Days

As a driver, it is important to stay cool while operating your vehicle. You will think much less clearly if you are uncomfortable while driving. This can lead to serious accidents on the road. Make sure your air conditioner is working properly and that you bring bottles of water with you to keep cool and hydrated while on the road.

Hot Weather Driving Safety

When the heat rises, you should automatically think about your comfort and safety while driving. Taking into account these hot weather driving safety tips can avoid serious and expensive issues. As you enjoy the rest of the summer, stay cool and safe in your vehicle!
